This wasn't the first time the county faced such a setback; a previous direct service between Shrewsbury and London's Marylebone also ceased in 2011.

She, along with a dedicated group, embarked on a journey to London to advocate for a direct rail service between London and Wrexham, even delivering a petition to Downing Street. Enter the Wrexham, Shropshire and Midlands Railway (WSMR), spearheaded by Alstom, a global rail company. Their initial proposal for five daily services in each direction was rejected by the Office of Rail and Road due to congestion concerns. Undeterred, WSMR resubmitted a revised bid with three daily services and the potential for a fourth, adding a stop at Wellington, Shropshire.

Darren Horley, WSMR's mobilisation director, emphasizes the bid's ambition to connect currently unlinked towns and cities. He assures that the new service will be faster, reducing the travel time between Wrexham and London to approximately four hours.

Carl Jones, from the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, highlights the detrimental impact of the county's isolation from London's rail network on businesses and economic growth. Nick Millington, Network Rail Route director for Wales and Borders, echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the area's potential with support from the Welsh Assembly.

Buckley envisions a brighter future for Shrewsbury station, suggesting a 10-year plan that includes a two-storey car park, a revamped front area, and enhanced bus connections. She dreams of a station front transformed into a vibrant plaza with fountains, a place to relax and enjoy a panini and cappuccino.

And the plot thickens... A new parkway station east of Shrewsbury is proposed, with Ian Baxter from SLC leading the charge. While the exact location is yet to be determined, Baxter assures easy access to the county town's road network.
